REMSA Paramedic Program
The REMSA Paramedic Program has an impressive track record of producing highly competent, entry-level paramedics that function effectively in a wide variety of pre-hospital settings. We are equally proud of our low student attrition rate and the successes of our past students as well as our 100 percent first-pass rate and 100 percent overall pass rate on the National Registry exam.
REMSA and the University of Nevada, Reno have a partnership to provide a paramedic program that is taught by healthcare professionals and provides a certificate of completion from the University at the conclusion of the program. Through this partnership, the students gain access to the medical school’s cadaver lab, allowing students to practice critical skills on cadavers. Students enrolled in the REMSA Paramedic Program are supported by both REMSA staff as well as the staff at the University’s Extended Studies office.
Accreditation
The REMSA Paramedic program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Questions or concerns regarding accreditation can be sent directly to either organization.

During the Class
Testing
Students are evaluated using a variety of methods throughout the program including written quizzes and exams, psychomotor evaluations, and affective evaluations.During the didactic phase, students are tested weekly using traditional written quizzes with extensive module exams at the end of each of the five modules. Students must maintain an 80% overall average in each module to be eligible to take the module exam. Failure to maintain 80 percent in the program results in termination from the program. In addition, students are evaluated utilizing lab scenarios throughout the didactic phase. Lab evaluations are conducted as students are introduced and trained to complete skills such as IV’s, advanced airway procedures, and patient assessments. Students are evaluated by faculty and supplemental instructors and must successfully complete all state and program required skills to pass the didactic portion of the program.
During the clinical phase, students are evaluated daily by clinical preceptors in the psychomotor and affective domains utilizing a daily clinical evaluation tool. Preceptors evaluate the student on their ability to translate didactic knowledge into practice along with their professional behavior.
In the field internship phase, students are evaluated daily on their ability to practice the knowledge and skills they have learned during the previous two phases of the program. Preceptors utilize a daily evaluation tool that rates students on the affective and psychomotor knowledge as well as their ability to assimilate cognitive learning into practice in the pre-hospital setting.
Clinical (228 hrs.)
During the clinical portion of the paramedic program, the student will be assigned to various clinical settings for a total of 228 hours. The Clinical locations provide the student with a controlled environment to practice psychomotor skills, apply didactic knowledge, and receive valuable clinical instruction. REMSA’s Paramedic Program utilizes established clinical sites and makes all the necessary arrangements for the students. The Student will also be responsible for presenting 1 written case study during the Clinical phase. The Clinical Phase is a 36 hour a week commitment.Field Internship (480 hrs.)
The field internship combines practical application of didactic knowledge, psychomotor skills, and clinical instruction. The field internship represents both an instructional and evaluative phase of the program. During the field internship, the student will be under direct supervision by a paramedic preceptor. The field internship phase is a 48 hour a week commitment. The Field Internship is a step process to slowly adjust the Paramedic Student into a dynamic EMS environment.
The Field Internship hours will be spent entirely in the REMSA system.
Didactic (581 hrs.)
The curriculum is sequenced in a way that allows knowledge and concepts to build upon each other as the program progresses. For example, cellular and tissue anatomy and physiology are presented in the beginning and then specific A & P associated with each body system is presented during the appropriate time in the program (i.e. cardiac A&P is taught at the beginning of the cardiology module).Options
