Child Passenger Safety Week

decorative

From September 17-23, 2023 REMSA Health will offer FREE Car Seat Inspection and Installation in recognition of National Child Passenger Safety Week. This national campaign is aimed at helping parents and caregivers understand how to properly install and use car seats, booster seats, and seat belts for infants and children.

Appointments are limited to a first-come, first-served basis. Make your reservation here online.

According to the CDC, in 2020, 607 child passengers ages 12 and younger were killed in motor vehicle crashes in the United States, and more than 63,000 were injured. Of the children who were killed in a crash, 38 percent were not buckled up. Parents and caregivers can make a lifesaving difference by ensuring that their children are properly buckled on every trip. Car seat use reduces the risk for injury in a crash by 71–82 percent for children, when compared with seat belt use alone; and booster seat use reduces the risk for serious injury by 45 percent for children ages 4–8, when compared with seat belt use alone. Child restraint laws – including in Nevada – require children riding in vehicles to use approved restraint devices (car seats, booster seats, or seat belts) appropriate for their weight, height, and age.

REMSA Health’s Point of Impact program offers appointment slots for car seat education and installation. Car seats are not provided at appointments—you must have a car seat to make an appointment. You may bring your child to the appointment, though it is not required. Please make sure to know your children’s most recent height and weight. Appointments are held at the REMSA Health Center for Integrated Health and Community Education, 400 Edison Way, Suite B.
