In 1974, President Gerald Ford established EMS Week to celebrate emergency medical service practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. We are excited to recognize and honor the hard work and dedication of the women and men who provide EMS services across northern Nevada. Throughout EMS Week, REMSA and Care Flight employees were invited to take advantage of fun events like visiting with pet therapy dogs, entering to win great prizes, enjoying free snacks and coffee and unwinding with complimentary yoga.
We kicked off the week with Carolyn S., paramedic, throwing out the first pitch at a Reno Aces game.
On Tuesday, we welcomed Paws for Love therapy dogs. They rode along with our supervisors to visit crews and visited our communications and administrative staff. They were a hit! Some staff described it as “The Best. Day. Ever.”
We also hosted the organization’s inaugural EMS Week Clinical Challenge! Our clinically-excellent providers teamed up and participated in eight different stations including Hazardous Materials Identification, CPR and Rhythm Interpretation, and Vascular Access and Medication Drop Administration, to name a few. Teams were ranked based on speed and accuracy of care at each station. Winners earned medals and bragging rights for Best in the West Clinical Challenger.
Winners are:
Joshua Warner, an entrepreneur, veteran, advisor and emotional resilience expert visited REMSA to speak about the importance of self-care for responders who deal with grief, loss and trauma to reintegrate back into life. Thank you for your thoughtful presentation!
On Wednesday, REMSA and Care Flight celebrated and recognized outstanding clinical and service contributions to its ground and air EMS programs over the last year. We are so proud to honor our providers for their hard work and dedication to our community. Learn more about the award winners here.
We are so thankful for community partners like Code Coffee for working with REMSA and Care Flight to recognize our EMS providers and their service to our community with a FREE cup of hot or iced coffee, or iced tea! As a part of Thirsty, Thankful Thursday, here are some brief thank you messages to all EMS practitioners from REMSA President and CEO, Dean Dow and the REMSA Board of Directors/Medical Leadership.
Finally, Feeling Good Friday arrived! Our team members participated in complimentary yoga sessions from Yoga Pod Reno. What a great way to wind down after a week of EMS Week activities and celebrations.
