Alexia Jobson, director of Public Relations, REMSA Health has provided the following update:
“Care Flight will pause its operations including its helicopter service, fixed-wing service and critical care ground transport service during the 24-period beginning 7 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24 through 7 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024. REMSA Health will continue its 24/7 ground ambulance services during this time.
Care Flight has made other regional air ambulance services, including CalStar and Classic Air, aware of its pause in service so that they will be available to provide emergency medical transport services during this time if requests arise. Care Flight’s air communications dispatch specialists will be staffed to ensure service requesters are connected to the closest available resource during this time.”
On Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, a medical transport plane went down near Stagecoach, Nevada and all five lives on board were lost. This Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of this tragedy. In commemoration, Care Flight will suspend services for 24 hours and take time privately to honor the lives of the five individuals.
REMSA Health President and CEO Barry Duplantis has provided the following statement:
“This Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 marks one year since the medical transport plane went down near Stagecoach, Nevada in which all five lives on board were lost. It’s a day we will never forget.
In honor of this anniversary, REMSA Health and Care Flight will take time to remember these remarkable individuals: Care Flight crew members, Ed Pricola and Ryan Watson; Guardian Flight pilot, Captain Scott Walton; and the patient and his spouse. We’ll pause all Care Flight transport programs for 24 hours, beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24.
We will gather privately with our employees, healthcare providers, and their families to celebrate their lives. We invite our community members to join us—from wherever you are—in a moment of silence at 9:14 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24.
I’m incredibly proud of how our northern Nevada community came together immediately following this tragedy. Our teams and their families have felt your support as we navigate the loss while continuing to do the vital day-to-day work of providing healthcare services to our region.
As emergency medical services providers, our job is to care for those in our communities. REMSA Health and Care Flight could not be more proud to serve you. Thank you for taking time to remember.”
