Paul Burton, director of ground operations at REMSA, shares tips about moving the right when you’re approached by an emergency vehicle.

Hi, I’m Paul with REMSA. The roads are especially busy heading into the holiday season, so I’d like to take some time to share some important reminders about how to react when you encounter emergency vehicles.
Move to the right when you see emergency lights, slow down, use your turn signal, move to the right and either slow as much as possible or completely pull onto the shoulder. If you’re at a blocked intersection and an emergency vehicle approaches, do not pull into that intersection. Wait for the light to turn and slowly move to the right as traffic allows. Once the emergency vehicle has passed, double check and make sure your lane is clear before moving back over. Sometimes more than one emergency vehicle may be responding to that incident.
Thank you for being vigilant and stay safe!
