REMSA Welcomes Shirley Folkins-Roberts to Board of Directors

The Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) is pleased to announce that Shirley Folkins-Roberts, Development Manager, Panattoni Development Company will join the organization’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.

As our region grows, there will be new challenges and exciting opportunities ahead of us. As our board of directors offers guidance and leadership to the organization, Shirley’s vast professional experiences, coupled with her passion for health-related causes will provide an invaluable perspective.”

As a member of the REMSA board of directors, Folkins-Roberts will provide leadership, counsel, oversight and support to the REMSA executive leadership.

In her role with Panattoni Development, Folkins-Roberts is responsible for procurement and management of commercial real estate projects. She actively manages industrial and office developments including land entitlement, procurement of financing, oversight of construction and ultimately leasing or sale. In addition, she manages the company’s legal team during asset transactions and oversees marketing efforts and events to promote new development projects among potential tenants and the brokerage community. Since 2014, Folkins-Roberts has been involved in more than three million square feet of commercial real estate development.

Folkins-Roberts earned her Juris Doctor from the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Davis. She became a member of the California Bar in 1993 and the Nevada Bar in 2010.

Folkins-Roberts has extensive community relations and non-profit volunteer and management experience as well. She is a co-founder of the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF), formerly the Keaton Raphael Memorial. As an advocate for the organization, she led the creation of a bill to submit to the Nevada State Legislature which sought money for childhood cancer and submitted testimony before the committee. She has also overseen the ongoing organization of community outreach events including Adopt-A-Family holiday giving and St. Baldrick’s research fundraiser. She has led teams of Nevada families to Washington D.C. to advocate for childhood cancer research funds, is a member of the Renown Children’s Hospital Champion Council and is the Nevada Team Leader and Childhood Cancer Advocate for CureSearch.

Folkins-Roberts is also a prominent advocate for Northern Nevada’s development industry. She serves as a Board Member, Legislative Advocate, Volunteer Lobbyist, and Co-Chair of the Government Affairs Committee for the Northern Nevada Chapter of NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Properties).

Folkins-Roberts is a former member of the Board of Directors, Chair of Auction Sponsorships and other fundraisers and President of the Parent Association for the Mountain View Montessori School. She is also a Coach and Fundraiser of the University of Nevada Rodeo Team Club and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Reno Central since 2008. She was the recipient of both the Rotary District 5190 Transformer Award and the Silent Rotarian Award.

REMSA is governed by a seven-member volunteer board of directors comprised of regional hospital leadership as well as other regional professionals including an attorney, a CPA, and community member. REMSA has strong oversight from the Board of Directors, the Washoe County District Board of Health, the EMS Advisory Board, and the State of Nevada EMS Division.
